Terra Firma Energy Limited (TFE) has officially started commercial operations at its 5MW flexible generation site in Droitwich, Worcestershire. This marks an important step in the UK’s energy transition, highlighting TFE’s dedication to providing reliable and adaptable energy solutions that help stabilize the country’s power grid.

The Droitwich site is the result of collaboration between several key industry players. Blackstone Energy acted as the EPC contractor, managing the project’s construction and smooth execution. Rolls-Royce MTU, in partnership with Yellow Power, supplied advanced hydrogen-ready generator technology, ensuring efficiency and durability. Conrad Energy now leads as the optimiser, integrating the site into the energy market and enhancing its contribution to grid stability.

Flexible Energy Solutions and Grid Stability in the UK’s Energy Strategy

Flexible generation plants like the one in Droitwich are essential for the UK’s energy strategy. As the country increasingly relies on renewable energy sources, these plants help fill supply gaps, ensuring power is available when needed. This is crucial for maintaining a stable and reliable grid, especially during periods of high demand.

“The launch of operations at our Droitwich site shows the power of partnership and shared vision,” said William Davies, Managing Director of Terra Firma Energy. “Each of our collaborators played a crucial role in making this project a success. We are excited to see Conrad Energy optimise the site’s capabilities, ensuring it provides flexible, reliable energy to meet the challenges of a modern grid.”

Optimising Energy Assets with Advanced iON+ Technology

Conrad Energy’s iON+ platform will play a key role in the site’s operation. This platform ensures the asset runs efficiently, trading and dispatching power in the right markets at the right times to maximise profitability. By integrating the Droitwich site into iON+, Conrad Energy aims to ensure top performance, improving both the site’s economic and operational output.

Tony O’Carroll, CEO of Conrad Energy, shared his excitement about the partnership: “We’ll be integrating the new site at Droitwich into iON+ immediately. It’s great to see another asset owner trusting our company and technology to maximise their returns.”
