Estonian manufacturer Stargate Hydrogen has launched two new alkaline electrolyzers, including a 10MW system that it claims is the most space-efficient of its kind, as it seeks to serve heavy industry customers pursuing on-site green hydrogen production.

The company’s new “Aurora” electrolyzer system integrates two 5MW “Starbase” stacks within a three-storey outdoor module, designed for industrial users such as refineries, chemical plants and steel producers. Stargate said Aurora’s footprint of 14.4 square metres per megawatt sets a record for compactness in commercial alkaline electrolyzers, a key constraint for on-site hydrogen adoption.

Each 5MW Starbase stack operates at an efficiency below 49kWh per kilogram of hydrogen, slightly ahead of the roughly 50kWh/kg benchmark for high-performing low-temperature systems. Together, the components form a 10MW unit capable of producing hydrogen at lower electricity costs per unit of output — a crucial factor in improving the economics of green hydrogen.

“With Starbase and Aurora, we are addressing the two main barriers for industrial hydrogen adoption: cost of hydrogen and space constraints at industrial sites,” said Marko Virkebau, Stargate Hydrogen’s chief executive. He described the products as enabling companies “to integrate green hydrogen production directly into their existing operations,” particularly in hard-to-abate sectors.

The company said it is already in commercial discussions for first deliveries, highlighting strong market interest. The launch follows the opening of Stargate’s 140MW electrolyser manufacturing facility in Estonia earlier this year, part of a phased plan to expand to 1GW of capacity as demand grows. The firm noted that production is fully booked through the end of 2025, with orders from both European and international customers in the Middle East and Asia.
