ITM Power will supply six 20MW PEM electrolyzer modules, known as Poseidon, for Uniper’s Humber H2ub® (Green) project. The modules are built for industrial-scale applications and offer strong performance in efficiency and operational responsiveness. Their compact design also supports future scalability.

Part of the UK Government’s HAR2 Scheme

The Humber H2ub has been shortlisted under the UK government’s second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2), which provides subsidy support through Contracts for Difference. Final investment approval is expected in 2026, with the facility required to begin operations by March 2029.

Green Hydrogen Supply for Phillips 66 Refinery

Uniper has secured a preliminary offtake agreement with Phillips 66. Green hydrogen from the Humber H2ub will partially replace fossil fuel gas at the company’s Humber Refinery. The plan is focused on cutting carbon emissions from industrial-fired heaters.

Future Expansion Potential Beyond 200MW

While the project starts with 120MW of capacity, Uniper has signaled the site could grow by an additional 200MW or more. This would place it among the UK’s largest green hydrogen hubs, pending market demand and additional funding.

Industry Confidence Reflected in Market Reaction

Following the announcement, ITM Power’s share price jumped more than 10%, reflecting investor confidence in the project and the broader momentum behind UK hydrogen infrastructure.

Strategic Milestone for ITM and Uniper

“We are delighted that Uniper has selected us for their large-scale green hydrogen project in the UK,” said ITM Power CEO Dennis Schulz. “It will contribute to the decarbonization of the Humber Refinery and create skilled job opportunities.”

Uniper COO Jan Taschenberger added, “This is a key milestone for the project. We are looking forward to further developing the engineering for the project built around the ITM Power 20MW Poseidon modules.”
