ENERTRAG, a leading German renewable energy developer, has announced a public auction for 500 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. This hydrogen will come from a new 10MW electrolysis plant currently under construction in Osterweddingen, near Magdeburg. The plant is expected to begin operations at the end of 2025 and will produce around 900 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, mainly sourced from ENERTRAG’s own wind farms.

Boosting the Hydrogen Economy

The auction aims to provide companies with early access to green hydrogen, with deliveries starting in January 2026. This initiative is a key step in scaling up the hydrogen economy and supporting businesses as they work to reduce emissions and secure a reliable supply of clean energy.

Impact on Industry and Sustainable Projects

The hydrogen produced will play a vital role in reducing emissions across various sectors. It will help create 5,000 tonnes of green steel, power hydrogen trucks and buses to cover 5 million kilometers, and produce 2,500 tonnes of green methanol for industrial use. These efforts will support the decarbonization of industries and contribute to building a more sustainable economy.

Expanding Hydrogen Production Across Germany

ENERTRAG is also planning to expand its hydrogen production capacity in the coming years. Two new plants in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will begin operations by 2028, adding a combined 185 MW of electrolysis capacity. Together, these plants will produce up to 17,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually, helping meet growing demand and advance Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure.
